Blaze Tears Through Bristol Airport Car Park
A fierce fire ripped through Bristol Airport’s Silver Zone car park on the morning of December 10, torching several vehicles and causing temporary runway closure. Avon Fire and Rescue Service teamed up with the airport’s own fire crew to wrestle the blaze under control.
Flames Engulf 11 Cars; Runway Shut Down
Eyewitnesses reported flames ripping through the open-air Silver Zone car park, forcing the airport to shut its runway briefly as a safety precaution. Firefighters from Bedminster and the airport raced to the scene, finding 11 cars ablaze. The airport’s fire crew was already battling the inferno when main crews arrived.
Several Cars Destroyed, No Injuries
By midday, firefighters had extinguished the flames, preventing the fire from spreading further. Avon Fire and Rescue confirmed that 4 to 5 vehicles were completely destroyed, with others suffering varying damage.
“There were no injuries, and the fire was quickly put out by the emergency services,”
said a Bristol Airport spokesperson.
Cause Confirmed As Accidental
Avon Fire and Rescue ruled out foul play, describing the blaze as an accidental ignition. The airport is now operating normally after the brief disruption.
