A huge fire has erupted at a commercial unit on Longden Road, Gorton, sending thick black smoke billowing across Manchester. The blaze is so intense it’s visible for miles, with locals spotting the towering plume from many parts of the city.
Road Closures and Evacuations as Emergency Services Respond
Greater Manchester Police have cordoned off Matthews Lane and shut nearby roads. There are reports some residents near Matthews Lane have been evacuated as a precaution. Firefighters are locked in a fierce battle to bring the inferno under control.
Smoke Blankets Area – Fire Service Urges Caution
The Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service warns locals to keep windows and doors shut to avoid smoke inhalation. They also advise avoiding the area wherever possible.
“We are currently dealing with a large fire at a commercial property on Longden Road in Gorton. Residents nearby are urged to keep windows and doors closed, and we ask everyone to avoid the area while our crews work to bring the blaze under control,” a Fire Service spokesperson said.
No Injuries Reported as Investigation Looms
