Ian Watkins, the disgraced former Lostprophets frontman, was seen stumbling from his jail cell covered in blood after his throat was slashed at HMP Wakefield on 11 October 2025. The disturbing CCTV footage, shown in Leeds Crown Court, captured the 48-year-old emerging from his cell at around 9am, moments after the attack allegedly carried out by fellow inmates.
Shocking Cell Assault
The footage shows Watkins holding his neck while bleeding profusely as two prison workmen passing by noticed his condition. They quickly alerted prison officers who rushed to his aid. Watkins was serving a 29-year sentence for child sex offences at the time of the assault.
Accused Prison Inmates On Trial
Rico Gedel, known as drill rapper BroadayYay, 25, alongside Samuel Dodsworth, 44, stand trial accused of murdering Watkins. Both men were already incarcerated for serious offences—Gedel for murder, Dodsworth for rape and kidnapping—before the alleged attack.
No Motive Needed, Court Hears
Prosecutor Tom Storey KC told the court there was no justification for the attack and no need for a motive to be proved. During questioning, Gedel claimed “God” was responsible for the injuries, describing his own discomfort at sharing a wing with offenders like Watkins.
