Firefighters sprang into action to save a litter of newborn kittens trapped beneath a staircase in West Bromwich. The distressed mother cat stayed close, unable to reach her babies stuck in a tight floor void.

West Midlands Fire Service crews were called earlier this week after the kittens slipped into a narrow gap between the wall and steps. Using specialist gear, firefighters from the White Watch carefully accessed the cramped space and freed the helpless kittens, reuniting them safely with their mum.

While on the scene, the heroes also gave the household crucial fire safety advice, stressing that prevention is just as important as emergency response.
