A massive fire ripped through Thornes Park Stadium in Wakefield at around 7:35pm tonight, sending thick smoke billowing across the area.

Flames Spread to Stadium Roof

The fire started in the open before spreading to an overhanging section of the stadium’s roof. Thick smoke quickly engulfed the building, sparking concern among locals.

Firefighters Blitz the Scene

Due to the number of emergency calls, crews deployed three fire engines from Wakefield, Ossett, and Dewsbury. They fought the blaze with two hose reels, two breathing apparatus sets, and a high-powered fan to clear the heavy smoke.

Emergency Services Respond Swiftly

Fire chiefs praised the quick response, which helped control the fire and limit damage. No injuries have been reported so far, but the cause of the fire is under investigation.
