M25 Chaos: Lorry Fire Sparks Massive Traffic Jam in Essex
Drivers face brutal delays on the M25 this morning after a lorry fire sparked chaos between junctions 25 and 28 in Essex. The motorway is crawling with traffic, with jams adding a whopping 90 minutes to usual travel times.
Major Lorry Fire Closes Multiple Lanes
Emergency services rushed to the scene, including Essex Police, Essex Fire & Rescue, and Traffic Officers. Although the fire is now out, lanes 1, 2, and 3 remain shut between J27 and J28.
The closures are necessary for the tricky recovery operation. The lorry’s trailer had to be cut apart due to its height so it could be safely loaded onto a flatbed recovery vehicle. This is needed to clear the bridges between the junctions.
Smouldering Wood Pallets Keep Fire Risks High
Complicating the cleanup, pallets of wood on the lorry have been re-igniting, dragging out the recovery process. Firefighters remain on alert to stop flare-ups, making the wait longer for stranded motorists.
Six-Mile Tailbacks Stretch Back to J25
Traffic is backed up for six miles to J25. Commuters are urged to delay their journeys or find alternative routes. Variable message signs along the motorway continue to update drivers on the situation.
Stay tuned for further updates as the motorway clears.
