M2 Completely Shut After Serious Crash Between Sittingbourne and Faversham

The M2 motorway is closed in both directions following a major collision involving a car between Junction 5 (Sittingbourne/Stockbury Roundabout) and Junction 6 (Faversham). The smash happened earlier this evening (February 16, 2025) and has caused severe disruption for drivers.

Road Closures and Traffic Chaos

  • M2 Westbound: Blocked between J6 (Faversham) and J5 (Sittingbourne). Trapped traffic is slowly being released from the back of the queue.
  • M2 Eastbound: Fully closed between J5 and J6 to allow emergency crews, including the Air Ambulance, to attend the scene.
  • Diversions in Place: Drivers are urged to follow the Solid Circle symbol:
    • Exit at J5 and take the A249 towards Maidstone.
    • Join the M20 Eastbound at J7 and exit at J8.
    • Follow alternative routes towards Faversham.

Emergency Services Rush to Scene

Kent Police, South East Coast Ambulance Service, and Kent Fire & Rescue Service are all responding. The Air Ambulance has also been called in to help with casualties.

The seriousness of injuries remains unknown, and officials have not confirmed how many people were involved.

Kent Police want anyone who saw the crash or has dashcam footage to get in touch urgently.

  • Submit dashcam footage via the Kent Police website.
