Massive Blaze Erupts Near Basildon Industrial Estate – Thick Smoke Chokes A13
Huge Fire Guts Industrial Yard
A large fire has broken out near Vange Park Road in Basildon, sending thick black smoke billowing across the area this afternoon. Flames tore through an industrial yard reportedly packed with heavy-duty plastic drainage pipes, which are fuelling the fierce blaze and spewing out dense smoke.
Firefighters Battle Blaze with Four Engines
Essex County Fire & Rescue Service rushed four fire engines to the scene to tackle the inferno. The service warned drivers and locals to keep car windows shut due to the heavy smoke.
“The fire is producing lots of smoke, so if you are travelling nearby, please keep your windows closed,” the service said in a public alert.
Traffic Chaos Expected on A13 and Five Bells Roundabout
The fire sits next to one of Basildon’s busiest routes, causing major concern for evening commuters. Drivers heading towards the A13 and Five Bells Roundabout are braced for long delays and slow-moving traffic. Motorists are urged to seek alternative routes where possible to avoid getting stuck in gridlock.
Thankfully, there are no reports of injuries so far, and the cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
Safety Warning for Locals
Residents and commuters in and around Vange should stay indoors and keep all windows and doors tightly closed to avoid breathing in harmful smoke particles. Fire crews expect to battle the blaze well into the evening as they work to bring the fire under control.
