A man who was previously charged with raping a woman at a Portsmouth nightclub was found not guilty following a trial at Portsmouth Crown Court.

Ethan Barr, 25, from Maidstone, Kent, had faced two counts of rape after a 20-year-old woman reported being assaulted at Astoria nightclub in Guildhall Walk, Portsmouth, on April 30, 2022.

Barr denied both allegations and stood trial at Portsmouth Crown Court.

A jury unanimously found him not guilty of both counts following the trial in October 2022.

The acquittal means Barr was cleared of the allegations and was not convicted of either offence.

The case was originally reported in 2022 after police received a report concerning the alleged assault at the nightclub.
