Royal Mail has launched a stunning new stamp series celebrating the mighty Red Arrows’ 60th display season. These eye-catching stamps showcase the iconic aerobatic team’s signature red, white, and blue sky trails across eight dazzling designs.
Red Arrows Dazzle Across the Globe
Beyond the main set, an extra sheet features four stamps capturing the Red Arrows performing breathtaking displays over world-famous landmarks like the Eiffel Tower, the Pyramids of Egypt, and Niagara Falls. These images perfectly capture the team’s global appeal and aerial mastery.
Legendary History of Britain’s Best Flyers
The Red Arrows officially took flight in 1964, becoming the Royal Air Force’s premier aerobatic squad. Starting with red-painted Gnat jet trainers, they upgraded to sleek BAE Systems Hawks in 1980. Based at RAF Waddington in Lincolnshire, they have wowed nearly 5,000 crowds across 57 countries by early 2024.
Their trademark Diamond Nine formation is a symbol of precision flying and skill, making the Red Arrows a quintessential British icon.
Voices from Royal Mail and the RAF
David Gold, Royal Mail’s Director of External Affairs and Policy, said: “During key national celebrations like His Majesty’s Coronation, the Red Arrows have delivered spectacular aeronautical excellence. We’re proud to honor 60 dazzling seasons with these striking new stamps.”
Squadron Leader Jon Bond, 2024 RAF Aerobatic Team leader and Red 1 pilot, added: “This 60th season highlights the dedication and pride of everyone involved with the team. Featuring brilliant photos taken by RAF personnel, these stamps will inspire future generations to marvel at aviation’s wonder – just like our vibrant shows.”
