Tragic Northumberland Crash Claims Life of Senior Driver
Police in Northumberland are urgently appealing for witnesses after a fatal two-car collision near Weldon Bridge on the A697.
Fatal Smash Near Longframlington
At around 11am last Saturday, emergency services rushed to a collision involving a silver Ford C Max and a silver Renault Clio. The smash happened south of Longframlington.
The Renault driver, a 76-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene. His family have been informed and are receiving support from specialist officers.
Other Driver Injured, Road Remains Closed
The Ford’s 60-year-old driver suffered minor injuries and was taken to hospital. In the aftermath, police closed the road and set up local diversions while the investigation continues.
Police Seek Dashcam Footage and Witnesses
“This incident has tragically taken the life of one man and our thoughts are with his loved ones as they come to terms with this awful loss,” said Sergeant Matt Sykes of the Northumbria Police Motor Patrols team.
“We are trying to build up a picture of what happened and are asking motorists with dashcam footage or anyone who witnessed the collision to get in touch.”
