Van driver slammed for running over ducklings at busy Stoke-on-Trent roundabout
Outrage as ducklings crushed on A34 Trentham Gardens
Staffordshire Police are investigating after shocking images of ducklings lying dead on the road surfaced on social media. The incident unfolded on Friday at the busy Trentham Gardens roundabout in Stoke-on-Trent.
Local witness Steven Walley caught the moment a family of seven ducklings tried to cross the A34. He said all traffic had stopped, but one van driver showed zero patience.
“I’ve just been driving on the A34 at Trentham Gardens roundabout when a family of seven ducklings were crossing the road. All the traffic stopped to let them cross but disgustingly this van driver, after initially stopping, could not then wait for the five seconds it would have taken to let them cross and drove straight over them, crushing three of them.”

Walley didn’t let the driver off the hook and followed him to a nearby lay-by for a heated confrontation. The police have since contacted Walley and are probing whether any laws were broken under the Wildlife and Countryside Act.
Staffordshire Police said: “We have made contact with the author of the post and are establishing potential offences under the Wildlife and Countryside Act. We understand this is an emotive issue for many people and we ask please that you do not take matters into your own hands.”
Public warned not to take vigilante action
The force has urged residents to let the police handle the investigation and avoid any personal reprisals. The case has struck a chord across the community, with many expressing anger over the needless animal cruelty.
