Hope on the Horizon? Vaccine Could Arrive by Christmas
There’s a glimmer of hope amid the chaos. The Deputy Chief Medical Officer, Professor Jonathan Van-Tam, told a press conference alongside Boris Johnson that a vaccine developed by Pfizer and BioNTech is about 90% effective.
Van-Tam called the jab “a very important scientific breakthrough” but warned it won’t impact the current wave of infections. “We have to battle through to the end without a vaccine,” he said.
He added: “I’m hopeful we could see some vaccine by Christmas,” stressing it might prevent future Covid waves rather than the present crisis.
