Police Seal Off Billy Trail Track on Hayling Island After Mystery Incident
Police have shut down the entrance to the Billy Trail on Hayling Island this morning following an undisclosed incident.
Emergency Teams Rush to Remote Scene
Just after 11am, emergency services flooded the area. A Specialist Hazardous Area Response Team was brought in all the way from Otterbourne, near Winchester, roughly 30 miles away. Paramedic officers arrived in rugged Land Rover Discoveries, while a South Central Ambulance Incident Response Unit also joined the scene.
Ambulance Leaves Under Police Escort
At around 1pm, an ambulance sped off, escorted by police vehicles. The dramatic exit involved reversing down the seven-mile off-road track — a tricky manoeuvre in such a confined space. It’s unclear whether there was a casualty inside, but footage shows an officer entering the ambulance before it departed.
Police Maintain Tight Security
For most of the morning, officers guarded the entrance, keeping the public out with cordon tape. The atmosphere around the trail remains tense as authorities keep details under wraps.
No Comment from Ambulance Service
Michelle Archer, Communications Manager for South Central Ambulance Service, declined to comment on the ongoing situation.
