Portsmouth Museum Snags £80k Heritage Grant
Portsmouth City Council has bagged a huge £79,700 from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) to launch a two-year project called Wild About Portsmouth. The scheme aims to put the city’s natural history collection firmly in the spotlight.
Wildlife Warriors to Lead the Charge
The project will recruit a team of passionate ‘Wild About Portsmouth‘ advocates. These nature buffs will work alongside museum staff and volunteers to champion the city’s amazing natural history exhibits and get the community buzzing.
New Curator and Assistant on Board
The vital funding will also bring in a new curator of natural history and an assistant. They’ll spearhead activities at the Cumberland Museum and take care of the stored collections behind the scenes.
Michelle Roffe, Head of HLF South East, said: “We are delighted to support this project, which, thanks to money raised by National Lottery players, will mean that more people will be able to get involved with, protect, and learn about the exciting heritage right on their doorstep.”
