Biggin Hill Roof Blaze Sparks Major Fire Brigade Response

Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters rushed to tackle a fierce roof fire in Biggin Hill this lunchtime. The blaze tore through the roof of a detached two-storey house on Challock Close just before midday on Tuesday, April 25, 2023.

Neighbours Evacuated as Flames Rip Through Roof

The fire prompted an immediate evacuation of nearby homes and forced a road closure to keep onlookers away. Crews battled the flames using two hose reels, a powerful jet, and a 32-metre aerial ladder to reach the high roof.

No Injuries Reported as Fire Brought Under Control

Part of the roof of a two-storey terraced house was alight. One person left the house before firefighters arrived. There have been no reports of any injuries.”

The brigade was called at 11:54 am, and by 1:59 pm the fire was under control. Fire crews from Addington, Bromley, Croydon, Purley, and Woodside stations attended the scene and remain on site as investigations into the cause continue.

At this stage, the cause of the fire remains unknown. London Fire Brigade officials are continuing to investigate.
