EastEnders Star Nearly Became a ‘Chaser’ on The Chase!
Mark Labbett, aka The Beast from ITV’s hit quiz show The Chase, has revealed a juicy secret! EastEnders legend Shaun Williamson, best known as Barry Evans, was once in the running to join the Chasers’ elite squad.
Shaun’s Quiz Skills Shocked Everyone
Williamson dazzled producers and fellow Chasers during a special celebrity episode. “The celebrity version is tailored to give celebs a chance,” Labbett explained. “But Shaun was an exception. He seriously got trialled to be a Chaser and he’s not far off.”
Despite his sharp performance, Shaun himself knew he wasn’t quite ready for full-time Chaser status. Labbett praised his honesty: “He was smart enough to say, ‘I’m good but not at their level.’ He’s a very, very good quizzer.”
More Celebrity Quizzers Who Made an Impression
Shaun isn’t the only celeb to impress on The Celebrity Chase. Labbett also name-checked cricket star Phil Tufnell and flamboyant designer Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen.
“Laurence is a solid all-round quizzer but weaker on sports,” Mark said. “He paired with Phil, a sports expert, and together, they were lethal. But to be a full Chaser, you need no weak spots across all topics.”
Who’s the Best Chaser? Mark Says It’s Him!
When asked who’s top dog, Labbett didn’t hold back: “I’m arrogant enough to say I’m the best Chaser in the world. Some colleagues look funny at me, but I say, ‘Prove me wrong.’ You have to be tested constantly. That’s the price of being the best.”
Mark’s revelations give rare insight into the fierce standards on The Chase and show that stars like Shaun Williamson might just have what it takes to compete with the quiz elite.
