PCS Union Strike Set to Disrupt Key Animal Trade Services

The Public and Commercial Service (PCS) union has announced targeted industrial action from Monday, 3 April to Friday, 14 April 2023. This move threatens to disrupt vital services provided by the Animal and Plant Health Agency (APHA).

What’s at Risk?

The APHA’s Centre for International Trade Team faces the brunt of the strike. Services that may be hit include:

  • Certification, licences, and expert advice on imports and exports of animals – including pets and horses
  • Trade and movement of animal products
  • Handling of plants and animals protected under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES)

Plans to Limit Impact

APHA is fully aware of the strike and has activated contingency plans to protect business-critical operations as much as possible.

We’ve Been Warned: Plan Ahead

To avoid delays, APHA urges all users of these services to get ahead and submit their requests well before the strike action starts.
