Surrey’s Dan Takes Charge of National Road Safety
Dan, already Chief Fire Officer since October 2022 and NFCC road rescue lead, will add a national road safety role from March 2023. He also serves as Vice-Chair of the United Kingdom Rescue Organisation.
Dan’s Passion for Road Safety
Dan said, “I am honoured to lead the national response to road safety and road rescue. This is an area I’m passionate about. In Surrey and across many fire services, we attend more road traffic collisions than fires. It’s vital our teams and the whole industry are educated, informed, and well equipped.”
Local and National Leaders Praise Dan
Tim Oliver, leader of Surrey County Council, praised Dan’s appointment: “A huge congratulations to Dan. His work improving road safety and rescue deserved this national recognition. Surrey County Council is proud to have him represent us at this level.”
Neil Odin, Chair of NFCC’s Prevention Committee, welcomed Dan warmly: “He brings massive experience from his fire officer role and as NFCC road rescue lead. I’m confident Dan will inject fresh ideas and energy into the national road safety role.”
Passing the Baton
Neil also thanked Tony Crook, who led road safety nationally before retiring: “Dan will build on Tony’s excellent work while introducing new approaches to the prevention committee.”
