Firebug Sought After Blaze at Abandoned Care Home

On the evening of Sunday 15th May 2022, between 7pm and 8.30pm, vandals broke into a derelict care home on Chestnut Walk and started a fire. The blaze caused serious damage before firefighters arrived.

Police describe one offender as a man dressed entirely in black. Officers are urgently hunting for anyone with information about the break-in and fire.

Firefighters Praise Quick Response

PC Hannah Potter from Newbury police station urged witnesses to come forward. She said:

“Our colleagues at Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service managed to put out the fire quickly but advised that had they not been there promptly, the outcome would have been far worse.”

Police Seek CCTV and Dashcam Footage

If you were in the area at the time, please check your CCTV or dashcam recordings. PC Potter added:

“If you have any CCTV footage in the area or any dash-cam footage if you were in the area around the time, I’d also ask that you check any recordings in case it has captured something that could assist our investigation.”
