Chaos on M2: Fire Out but Huge Oil Spill Closes Road
Emergency teams rushed to the scene after a fire broke out on the M2, but while the flames are now out, a massive oil spill is causing havoc. The carriageway remains shut as crews work to clear the dangerous mess.
Traffic Nightmare as Clean-Up Continues
National Highways Traffic Officers are scrambling to manage the gridlock and guide frustrated drivers through diversions. The clean-up could take hours, leaving commuters stranded and stuck.
Follow These Diversion Routes to Avoid the Chaos
Road users are urged to follow the solid square diversion signs to navigate around the closure:
- Leave the M2 westbound at Junction 3 and head south on the A229 towards Maidstone.
- Continue on A229 to M20 Junction 6, then join the M20 westbound.
- Exit at M20 Junction 4, take the 3rd exit at the roundabout onto A228 northbound.
- Follow A228 back to M2 Junction 2 and rejoin the M2 westbound to continue your journey.
Plan Your Journey Now or Face Delays
If you planned to use the M2 westbound, expect serious delays. Allow extra time, consider alternative routes, or delay your trip altogether until the road reopens.
