DVSA Staff Set to Strike in April: What You Need to Know
Unionised staff at the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) are gearing up for strike action in April 2023. Members of the Public and Commercial Services (PCS) union involved include:
- Vehicle standards assessors
- Specialist vehicle standards assessors
- Traffic examiners
- Vehicle examiners
Despite the threat of strikes, if you have an appointment booked during the strike days, you should still attend unless DVSA specifically tells you otherwise.
MOTs for HGVs, Buses & Trailers: What’s the Impact?
DVSA does not currently expect the strikes to disrupt MOT testing for heavy goods vehicles, buses, and trailers. So, if your MOT is scheduled during the strike, turn up as planned.
Keep in mind, not all DVSA staff belong to the PCS union, and some might decide not to strike.
What If Your MOT Can’t Go Ahead?
If your test is cancelled due to strike action, you will need to book a new appointment directly with an MOT centre.
For ATF Managers
If a vehicle standards assessor fails to arrive within 15 minutes of the scheduled start time, contact your network business manager immediately.
Vehicle Approval Tests: Stay on Track
If your vehicle approval test falls on a strike day, attend your appointment unless DVSA contacts you to cancel.
Like other roles, not all specialist vehicle standards assessors are striking PCS members.
If your test is disrupted, DVSA will automatically reschedule and send you the new details — no need to call them.
