terror probe launched after synagogue attack in north Manchester
Counter Terrorism Police have launched a full investigation after a shocking attack outside the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation Synagogue this morning.
Three Suspects Held on Terror Charges
- Two men in their 30s and a woman in her 60s arrested
- All held on suspicion of terrorism offences
- Police scenes active at White House Avenue, Crumpsall, and Langley Crescent, Prestwich
Attacker Named as Jihad Al-Shamie
Authorities have identified the attacker as 35-year-old British citizen Jihad Al-Shamie, of Syrian descent. Formal identification is still pending, but police are confident of his identity.
A suspicious device worn by the suspect was found to be non-viable, ruling out an explosive threat.
Official records reveal no prior Prevent referrals for Al-Shamie, raising alarm among investigators.
Two Dead and Several Critically Injured
Tragedy struck as two innocent men died in the incident. Three others remain in critical condition in hospital.

- A third man injured during the police intervention later attended hospital
“We are working to formally identify those who have tragically been killed and provide support to their loved ones, in addition to the injured and the wider community,” said Counter Terrorism Police.
