Israeli Forces Kill Three Palestinians in West Bank Shootout
On Sunday, Israeli troops shot dead three Palestinians in the occupied West Bank, claiming they were en route to launch an attack. Soldiers opened fire on a vehicle, killing all three passengers, according to an army statement.
Over 100 Bullets Fired at Suspected Attackers
The Israeli military said, "A short time ago, a vehicle carrying a squad of terrorists from the Jenin refugee camp was identified while on its way to carry out an attack." Palestinian media reported the vehicle was hit with more than 100 bullets.
One of the dead was named as 26-year-old Naif Abu Tsuik, described by the army as a "leading military operative" from Jenin. He was accused of involvement in militant activities against Israeli forces and linked to Hamas-directed operations from Gaza.
Netanyahu Praises Troops, Hamas Vows Revenge
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu praised the security forces for their swift action, declaring Israel will continue targeting those who threaten national security.
Hazem Qasem, Hamas spokesman in Gaza, warned: "The enemy, which assassinated three of our Palestinian people, will not escape paying the price of its crimes."
Rising Violence Clouds West Bank Tensions
The deadly clash comes amid soaring tensions in Jenin, a hotspot riddled with frequent Israeli raids. In June, Israel launched its largest operation in the camp in nearly 20 years, killing 12 Palestinians and displacing thousands.
Violence has surged across the occupied West Bank this year. On August 5, Kamel Abu Bakr from Jenin killed an Israeli police inspector in Tel Aviv before being shot dead. Meanwhile, a settler rampage left 19-year-old Palestinian Qusai Jamal Maatan dead, and soldiers fatally shot 18-year-old Mahmoud Abu Sa’an during dawn raids.
This brutal year has claimed over 200 Palestinian lives in the West Bank and Gaza – the highest toll in recent memory, raising fears 2023 could become the deadliest yet.
