Devastating Blaze Ravages Camberley Home in Early Morning Fire
A couple are left counting the cost after a fierce fire tore through their Camberley property in the early hours. Flames licked across the roof, waking many nearby residents as police shut Park Road at both ends.
Massive Fire Response Battled the Blaze Overnight
Six fire engines from Surrey and Hampshire spent the night tackling a well-developed blaze that started in the conservatory just after 1am. The couple in their fifties and their two dogs were rescued by crews wearing breathing apparatus.
The fire quickly spread to the roof’s eaves, gutting the entire first floor and roof. A total of 40 firefighters from across Surrey pitched in, including a specialist aerial ladder platform. Hampshire sent two extra engines from Rushmoor to assist.
Neighbours Escaped Horror Thanks to Quick Fire Crews
The swift action stopped the fire spreading to an adjacent house where a mum and her three children live. The shaken mother told reporters, “I woke up to loud cracking noises and thick smoke. My throat was burning. I jumped out of bed in my night clothes and grabbed my kids. I was really worried we wouldn’t make it out.”
She praised the firefighters: “The engines arrived within minutes and worked really hard to keep the fire from spreading. I’m just glad no one was badly hurt.”
Aftermath: Home Uninhabitable, Dogs Safe with Neighbours
The couple were checked by paramedics and spent the night at a friend’s after their home was declared uninhabitable. Fire crews stayed on through the night, hunting for hotspots to prevent re-ignition.
The two rescued dogs are currently being looked after by neighbours while the family rebuilds their lives.
