Female airlifted following major incident on the M27 motorway

A woman is understood to have been left in a critical condition after jumping from a major motorway bridge in Southampton this evening. Emergency services rushed to the scene and tried with specialists negotiators to enter into conversation and engage with the woman who is understood to be in there 20’s to early 30’s. Despite efforts the woman jumped from the bridge on to the carriage below. Police and Highways England had put in a  hard road closure declaring the incident a major incident. Teams from South central ambulance service a Hazardous area response team and the Hampshire and Isle of Wight air ambulance also attended and treated the woman.   She is said to have have sustained serious life changing injuries as a result of the jump.   She has been airlifted to Southampton General Major trauma centre.   A spokesman for Highways England said that all lanes of the effected M27 motorway had been reopened and trapped traffic was now moving.
