Fraudster Busted for £6,000 Scam Spanning Rochester and Sittingbourne
Cheat Changes Charitable Cheques
Mandy Gladwin, 43, stands accused of fiddling with three cheques from well-meaning donors in October and November 2019. Two victims were hit in Rochester, with another targeted in Sittingbourne. The scam pulled in a cool £1,475.
More Theft and Fraud Allegations
But the fraud doesn’t stop there. Gladwin is also charged with nicking a mobile phone and some cash from a Rochester High Street business owner who thought they were donating to charity in December 2019.
On top of that, she faces burglary charges for hitting two homes in Rochester Avenue in August 2019. Both victims reported fraudulent bank card transactions totalling £155.
Bank Card Fraud and Fake Loan
Gladwin allegedly stole a man’s bank card in Rochester High Street, racking up over £1,100 in bogus transactions. She’s also charged with fraud for using fake details to apply for a £3,000 loan. These offences are said to have happened between February and May 2019.
Arrest and Court Date Set
The Metropolitan Police arrested Gladwin in Lewisham on 2 July 2020. She was handed over to Kent Police and charged with two burglaries, two thefts, and eight fraud counts.
Held in custody initially, she was bailed at Medway Magistrates’ Court on 4 July. Her next court appearance is at Maidstone Crown Court on 3 August.
