Ex-MP Andrew Griffiths Coerced Wife MP Kate Griffiths into Sex, Court Finds
Shocking Family Court Ruling against Former MP
A family court judge has ruled that Andrew Griffiths, 51, the disgraced former MP for Staffordshire, pressured his wife Kate Griffiths, the current MP for Burton-upon-Trent, into sexual activity through coercion and controlling behaviour.
Andrew Griffiths resigned in July 2018 after stories emerged of him sending “depraved” messages to two female constituents. He has vehemently denied all allegations, including claims of rape made by Kate Griffiths.
Private Family Court Hearings Lifted in Public Interest
Judge Elizabeth Williscroft heard a bitter dispute between the former couple at a family court in Derby. Kate Griffiths, 51, had accused her estranged husband of multiple abuses during their marriage and requested the judge make official findings.
The judge sided with Mrs Griffiths but initially kept the details secret to protect their child. However, a High Court judge later ruled these findings should be made public due to their significant public interest, overruling confidentiality.
Kate Griffiths supported the decision and agreed to be named in the reports, waiving the usual anonymity rights available to sexual abuse victims. Andrew Griffiths opposed the move.
Andrew Griffiths’ Dark Past Revealed
Once a minister for small business and Theresa May’s former chief of staff, Andrew Griffiths was forced out after relentless social media harassment accusations. He allegedly bombarded a 28-year-old barmaid and her friend with lewd messages over three weeks, though a parliamentary watchdog found no wrongdoing.
Kate Griffiths replaced him as the Conservative candidate and won the seat in 2019, announcing her divorce from Andrew shortly after.
Marriage Marred by Affairs and Addiction
The couple married in 2013 after five years together, but the judge revealed Kate uncovered Andrew’s long-running affair in 2010. The following year, he was sending sexual texts to another woman.
Judge Williscroft reported Andrew admitted to years of “sexually risky behaviour” and confessed to being “addicted to pornography.” The revelations paint a troubling portrait of the ex-MP’s private life.
