Massive Heath Fire Sparks Evacuations in Canford Heath
Dorset Police rushed to a large heath fire that broke out at Canford Heath on Saturday, 23 April 2022. The blaze was reported at 6.19pm, with firefighters tackling the inferno and officers ensuring public safety.
Roads Closed and Homes Evacuated
Authorities shut roads in the area and evacuated around 20 homes on Marshwood Avenue, Culliford Crescent, and Pilsdon Drive as a precaution. Ashdown Leisure Centre was swiftly opened as an evacuation hub for displaced residents.
Fire crews battled the flames through the evening. Thankfully, no injuries were reported.
Residents Return After Fire Contained
Following close coordination with the fire service, residents were allowed back to their homes at about 10pm once the threat was under control.
Police Appeal for Information on Fire Cause
Sergeant Fern Graham of the Poole Neighbourhood Policing Team said: “This fire has damaged a significant area of heathland. We are working with the fire service to determine the cause, which is still unknown.”
“If anyone was in Canford Heath that afternoon and saw anything or has footage from dashcams or phones, please get in touch to help our investigation.”
“I’d also like to thank the fire service for their efforts, the local community for their support, and Ashdown Leisure Centre for assisting displaced residents.”
