Drivers who plan to attend a car meet this weekend in Sheffield have been warned that any risk to our communities will not be tolerated.
We are aware of a planned car meet in Sheffield this Saturday (June 25), and our officers would like to remind those who plan to attend that we will not tolerate anti-social behaviour or dangerous driving in our area.
We are traffic officers – we are ourselves passionate about cars, and we’re all for people meeting and enjoying each other’s vehicles, but it must be done in a safe way,” said Sergeant Brandon Brown.
We have excellent relationships with a number of car meet groups in the South Yorkshire force area. We collaborate closely with them to ensure that they get the most out of their meet and that our communities are not harmed by something dangerous or out of control.
“The issue arises when we see unlicensed car meets in our neighbourhood. They are not only illegal, but they can also be hazardous to participants and the general public. Anti-social behaviour and reckless driving will not be tolerated in our districts, and we will take strong enforcement action when necessary to keep our communities safe and our road infrastructure in good condition.”
Under the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime, and Policing Act 2014, dispersal powers will be used against those who gather at unauthorised events, and drivers’ insurance, licence, and car modifications will be checked. Those who drive recklessly may be formally warned and their vehicles seized under Section 59 of the Police Reform Act.
We continue to express our willingness to collaborate with those organising such events, and we are eager to work with you to ensure that they are carried out in a safe and controlled manner. If you are organising a car meet or would like to contact us about one, please send an email to [email protected].uk.
