Tragic drowning of Croydon schoolgirl at water park birthday bash
11-Year-Old Kyra Hill Missing on Inflatable Assault Course
A Croydon schoolgirl has died after going missing from a water park inflatable course. Kyra Hill, just 11, vanished between 3 and 4pm last Saturday (August 6) while celebrating a birthday at Liquid Leisure in Windsor.
Top Student and Football Fan Found Too Late
Kyra, a bright pupil at Coombe Wood School, was found around 5.10pm and rushed to Wexham Park Hospital, but sadly could not be saved. Police describe her death as unexplained and are investigating. She was days away from her 12th birthday on August 18.
Classmates Praise ‘Kind’ and ‘Brilliant’ Girl
The pupil, who topped her classes, was adored by friends and teachers alike. A friend said, “Kyra was extremely gracious. She was extremely intelligent, ranking first in all of our classes. She loved making people happy and cared deeply.”
Another revealed Kyra was a keen footballer and Manchester United fan. She played for our Croydon school team and was such a sweet girl,” said the mother of a friend, fighting back tears. Social media has been flooded with tributes, including one that read, “Your smile and hugs gave me life, and you will never be forgotten.”
Birthday Party Turns Nightmare
Kyra and around ten friends started a Total Wipeout-style challenge at 3pm. When she didn’t return nearly an hour later, panic set in. Thames Valley Police say emergency services were called at 3.55pm following reports of a child in distress at the park.
The birthday girl’s mother had made sure all kids were confident swimmers before the party. Liquid Leisure demands confirmation that guests are strong swimmers and supplies life jackets for inflatable activities.
