Quick-Thinking Officer Performs Life-Saving First Aid
Using first aid skills from her training, PCSO Lusher sprang into action. She quickly cleared the blockage and forced the food out of the woman’s throat. The woman was then rushed to a local hospital for further care.
“My instinct and training kicked in and there was no doubt in my mind I needed to step in to help this lady, who was clearly in considerable distress,” said PCSO Lusher, who has served at Tunbridge Wells Police Station for 16 years. “I was concerned after using such force to clear her airway but I’m relieved she’s making a full recovery. It’s been lovely to meet her again at home.”
Kent Police Praise Heroism
Chief Superintendent Neil Loudon, Divisional Commander for West Kent, praised PCSO Lusher’s quick action. “Her quick-thinking undoubtedly saved this woman’s life. Sophie may see it as part of the job, but she went above and beyond. Our teams do exceptional work every day, much of which the public never sees. We’re proud of Sophie – she’s a credit to herself and Kent Police.”
