Stranded at sea: Hastings and Rye RNLI aid yacht in distress – UKNIP

In an early morning rescue operation on Saturday, July 7, the RNLI Lifeboat from Rye was called upon to aid a distressed yacht experiencing engine failure near the coast of Hastings.

RNLI Hastings ALB had already taken charge of towing the yacht but faced difficulties due to low water levels in the River Rother, preventing delivery to Rye for necessary engine repairs. Rye Harbour’s Atlantic ’85 lifeboat was also hindered by the low tide.

As a result, RNLI Rye Harbour ensured the yacht was safely anchored at the river mouth, confirmed the well-being of its occupants, and returned to the harbour, preparing for potential further calls throughout the day.

At 1:50 pm, HM Coastguard tasked RNLI Rye Harbour once again, this time to assist in transporting the yacht to the dockyard for repairs scheduled during the upcoming week.

Expressing his immense pride in the Rye Harbour team, Paul Bolton, Lifeboat Operations Manager, commended their unwavering dedication and commitment to saving lives at sea.
