RNLI Lifeboats Rescue Yacht Stranded Near Hastings
In a dramatic early morning rescue on Saturday, July 7, the RNLI Lifeboat from Rye sprang into action to save a yacht stranded off the Hastings coast. The vessel had suffered engine failure, leaving its crew in distress.
Low Tide Foils Initial Rescue Attempts
The RNLI Hastings ALB had taken the yacht under tow, but low water levels in the River Rother blocked the route to Rye, where vital engine repairs were needed. Rye Harbour’s Atlantic ’85 lifeboat was also unable to assist because of the stubborn low tide.
Safe Anchorage and 2nd Rescue Call
With no immediate escape, RNLI Rye Harbour helped anchor the yacht safely at the river mouth and checked on the crew’s welfare. They then returned to base, ready for action if needed later.
At 1:50pm, HM Coastguard called RNLI Rye Harbour again to ferry the yacht to the dockyard, where repairs will take place during the week ahead.
Operations Boss Praises Lifeboat Crew
