Teenage Boy Charged with Attempted Wounding after Teacher Stabbed at Tewkesbury School – UKNIP

A 15-year-old boy has been charged with attempted wounding with intent and possession of a bladed article after a teacher was stabbed in a school corridor. The incident occurred at Tewkesbury Academy in Gloucestershire at approximately 9 am on Monday.

Maths teacher Jamie Sansom sustained a single stab wound during the incident. Emergency services promptly responded to the scene, and Mr Sansom was treated for his injuries. He was discharged from the hospital on Monday evening and expressed his optimism about making a full recovery. Mr Sansom hopes to return to school before the start of the summer break.

The teenage boy, whose identity is protected by legal restrictions, was charged on Tuesday evening with section 18 attempted wounding with intent and possession of a bladed article on school premises. He will remain in police custody overnight and is scheduled to appear at Cheltenham Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.

Following the incident, Tewkesbury Academy was placed on lockdown, and two neighbouring schools were also asked to close their doors as a precautionary measure. The safety of students and staff is of paramount importance, and these actions were taken to ensure their well-being.

Assistant Chief Constable Richard Ocone of Gloucestershire Police provided reassurance to the community, stating that steps were taken to contain the situation and protect the wider public. The police will continue their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
