Police Officer Faces Shocking Rape Charges
Police Constable Ravi Canhye, 46, stands accused of eight serious sexual offences, including two counts of rape. The alleged attacks happened last year while he was off duty, involving two women.
Suspended Amid Investigation
Canhye was immediately suspended once the allegations surfaced and has remained off duty throughout the lengthy probe. The case was passed to the Independent Office for Police Conduct, which ordered Dorset Police to handle the local investigation.
Upcoming Court Appearance
On Tuesday, January 24, 2023, Canhye was formally charged. He is due to appear at Poole Magistrates’ Court on Friday, February 3, 2023.
Police Respond to Community Concerns
A Dorset Police spokesperson said, “We understand that charges of this nature will quite rightly cause concern within our communities.” They added that due to ongoing legal proceedings, they cannot comment further at this time.
