Bomb Scare Sparks Evacuation in Belper

Police swooped on a house in Acorn Drive, Belper, just after 6 p.m. last night after concerns were raised about a man’s safety.

Man Arrested Over Explosives

During a search, officers found several suspicious items. A man was quickly arrested on suspicion of explosives offences.

100-Metre Bomb Cordon Locks Down Area

The Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team advised setting up a 100-metre cordon. This shuts down parts of Acorn Way, Acorn Drive, Swinney Lane, and Swinney Bank.

Road Closures and Evacuations Hit Local Residents

  • Acorn Drive is closed at its junction with Mill Street.
  • Swinney Lane is shut between Mill Street and just past Swinney Bank.

Evacuated residents have been offered shelter at a rest stop set up at the Strutt Centre on Derby Road.
