Red Arrows Clamp Down: Drone Ban Over Nottinghamshire Airspace
Drone pilots beware! The RAF’s world-famous Red Arrows are practising near RAF Syerston, Newark, sparking a strict no-fly zone. Temporary flight restrictions are now in place, banning all aircraft — drones included — within a five-mile radius until April 7.
Fly Here and Risk Criminal Charges
Anyone caught flying a drone in this Temporary Danger Area (TDA) during Red Arrows training faces serious consequences, including potential criminal charges. Nottinghamshire Police’s chief drone pilot, Sergeant Vince Saunders, warns: “Drones can be great fun, but they pose a major danger to low-flying aircraft.”
Stay Clear or Pay the Price
With the Red Arrows lighting up Nottinghamshire skies, there’s no room for error. Saunders adds: “It is the responsibility of all drone operators to check when restrictions are in place, as they are applied on a rolling basis.” A recent drone conviction in Derbyshire highlights the risks — a pilot endangered the RAF’s Battle of Britain Memorial Flight and paid the price.
