Off-Duty PC Snaps Up Bike Thief in Daring Gym Car Park Sting
PC Greg Pick was enjoying a chill day off at a West Bridgford gym on April 15 when he spotted two men lurking suspiciously around parked cars.
Just as he was about to leave, PC Pick had a hunch. He U-turned and kept a close eye on the pair.
Thief Attempts Bold Snatch, Walks Into PC Pick’s Trap
One man acted as lookout while the other pinched a bike right from the gym car park — not knowing PC Pick was watching and had already alerted police control.
When the thieves tried to slip away, PC Pick tailed them as they made their move down Rugby Road.
Foot Chase Culminates in Arrest
- A nearby police community support officer was on the scene, ready to intercept.
- The thief panicked, dropped the stolen bike, and bolted — only to be chased on foot by PC Pick behind an Asda supermarket.
- The 33-year-old suspect was arrested on suspicion of bike theft and the bike was safely returned to the gym.
Hero PC Reflects on Away-Day Vigilance
“I was off duty, just leaving the gym, when I spotted two lads acting suspiciously,” said PC Pick. “You’re never really off in this job. Trust your instincts. Someone would’ve been gutted to find their bike gone. That’s why I joined – to stop this happening. Knowing someone got their bike back makes it all worth it. I’d do it again in a heartbeat.”
Neighbourhood Inspector Steve Dalby praised the bold action, saying: “This sends a clear message: crime won’t pay on our watch. Our officers go above and beyond to keep the public safe.”
