Police Crackdown on Car Meets at Lakeside

“Car cruising events can be intimidating and cause disruption for residents, but they also pose a very real danger to those taking part,” said Temporary Chief Inspector Tony Atkin, Thurrock’s District Commander.

“Someone sustained potentially serious injuries in this incident. We’re investigating what led up to the collision.”

“Our officers work closely with partners using Public Spaces Protection Orders and patrols to prevent these meets. We’ve targeted organisers with Community Protection Warnings, threatening criminal prosecution if they continue.”

“This proactive stance cut offences by 18% last summer. I’m also liaising with Thurrock Council on long-term traffic calming to tackle the problem.”
