Sussex Police Officer to Face Court Over Fatal Crash
A Sussex Police officer is set to appear in court over the tragic death of 27-year-old Arthur Hölscher-Ermert, who died after being hit by a car in Peacehaven on April 30, 2022.
Officer Charged with Death by Dangerous Driving
The officer, whose name is being kept under wraps for legal reasons, faces charges of death by dangerous driving. He is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on January 9, 2024.
Investigation Triggered by Sussex Police Referral
The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) launched a full investigation on May 1, 2022, following a mandatory referral from Sussex Police. After nearly a year of probing, the IOPC handed its report to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) in April 2023, leading to the authorised charge.
One Officer Cleared of Criminal Wrongdoing
The CPS has also announced it will not prosecute a second officer who was under criminal investigation for allegedly attempting to pervert the course of justice.
IOPC Pays Tribute, Warns Against Prejudicing Case
The IOPC expressed sincere condolences to Arthur Hölscher-Ermert’s family and all affected by the heartbreaking incident. They also urged the public and media to avoid speculation or reporting that could jeopardise the integrity of the upcoming trial.
