A 40-year-old woman is currently fighting for her life in hospital after being struck by a car on the A406 (the North Circular) in Barking this afternoon.
The incident occurred just before 3pm, and the victim was rushed to the hospital in critical condition.
As a result of the collision, several road closures are still in place, and motorists are urged to seek alternative routes where possible. Traffic monitoring site Inrix reported severe delays on the North Circular Northbound, extending back to A13 Newham Way and A124 London Road after the crash from around 3:15 pm.
Congestion had built back to Blackwall Tunnels Barking, but the lanes have now been reopened after the road closure that lasted for three hours.
A spokesperson from the Metropolitan Police stated: “Police were called at 14:52hrs on Thursday, 15 February to reports of a collision on the A406 in Barking. Officers and London Ambulance Service [LAS] attended. At the scene, a female pedestrian, aged 40, had been in a collision with a car.”
The injured woman was taken by London Ambulance Service to an east London hospital where her condition is critical. Enquiries are underway to contact the next of kin. The driver of the car stopped at the scene. There were no arrests.”
Police are urging anyone who witnessed the incident or has dash-cam footage to contact the police on 101, quoting reference number 4237/15FEB.
