Two men suspected of involvement in a burglary were arrested after climbing onto a roof in an attempt to escape police during a dramatic chase in Lee.

High-Speed Chase Leads to Rooftop Standoff

  • Metropolitan Police attempted to stop a vehicle in Brightfield Road at 9:20 PM on January 2.
  • Officers suspected the car had been involved in an aggravated burglary.
  • The two occupants fled the vehicle, leading officers on a foot chase before climbing onto a roof in Hedgley Street.

Emergency Services Deployed

  • London Fire Brigade and police negotiators attended the scene to persuade the suspects to come down safely.
  • The area was secured and monitored during the negotiations.
  • Both men were eventually brought safely down and arrested.

Arrests and Investigation

  • The suspects were arrested by Kent Police, but not in relation to the burglary. Instead, they were wanted for other offences.
  • Police have not yet confirmed whether further action will be taken regarding the aggravated burglary case.

Metropolitan Police Statement

A Met Police spokesperson said:

“At 9.20 PM on Thursday (January 2), a vehicle was pursued by Met officers in Brightfield Road, Lee. The vehicle was suspected to have been involved in an aggravated burglary. Two men absconded from the vehicle and climbed onto a roof in Hedgley Street. Met officers, alongside the London Fire Brigade, negotiated with both men who were brought safely to ground level. They were both arrested by Kent Police in relation to other offences.”

Ongoing Investigation

Police are continuing their investigation into the original burglary, and it remains unclear whether the two suspects will face charges in London.
