Brave officers from the Metropolitan Police’s Roads and Transport Policing Command (RTPC) put themselves at risk to protect motorists after a stolen vehicle was driven the wrong way down the A2 following a failed stop in Welling.
The incident unfolded when officers attempted to pull over the vehicle, but the driver refused to comply, leading to a dangerous pursuit. As the suspect entered the A2 against the flow of traffic, officers swiftly made tactical contact to bring the situation under control and prevent potential harm to other road users.
The driver, a male suspect, was arrested at the scene for multiple offences, including possession with intent to supply Class C drugs. He remains in police custody as further investigations continue.
A spokesperson for the Met Police commended the officers’ swift actions, stating:
“This was an extremely high-risk situation, but thanks to the decisive actions of our officers, a serious incident was averted. Their quick thinking and bravery ensured that no innocent road users were harmed.â€
The Metropolitan Police have urged anyone with information about stolen vehicles or drug-related crimes in the area to come forward.
This arrest is part of ongoing efforts to tackle vehicle-related crime and keep London’s roads safe.
