Israel Pounds Yemen’s Main Airport in Crushing Airstrike

Tensions in the Middle East spiraled on Tuesday, 6 May 2025, as the Israeli military launched a devastating airstrike on Yemen’s key airport in Sanaa. This brutal attack, the second in just two days, targeted Iran-backed Houthi rebels after they fired missiles near Israel’s Ben Gurion Airport.

Houthi-run Al-Masirah TV reported that the strike killed three people at Sanaa Airport. The latest assault marks a serious escalation in the volatile region.

Yemenia Airways Devastated: Three Aircraft Wiped Out

In a dramatic blow to Yemen’s national carrier, Yemenia Airways confirmed three of its planes were completely destroyed in the air raid. The casualties include two Airbus A320 models (7O-AFA and 7O-AFC) and one Airbus A330 (7O-AFE).

“The Israeli bombing of Sana’a Airport destroyed three aircraft that had been hijacked by the militia. We hold the militia responsible for the destruction and the resulting devastating losses,” Yemenia Airways stated.

The airline warned the loss deals a massive financial hit and deepens the struggles amid Yemen’s ongoing crisis.

Houthi Missile Attack Triggers Fierce Israeli Retaliation

The Israeli strikes came after Houthi militants launched a missile attack targeting areas near Ben Gurion Airport, Israel’s main international gateway. Fortunately, no casualties were reported in Israel, but the missile launch ratcheted up tensions across the Middle East.

Israeli defense officials have vowed to strike back firmly against any group threatening their soil, making Tuesday’s airstrike part of an aggressive security strategy.

Regional Unrest Flares: Fear of Wider Conflict

This latest clash stokes fears that the Middle East conflict could spread beyond Israel and Gaza to include Yemen, Lebanon, and Syria. International diplomatic efforts to defuse the crisis have so far fallen flat.

The United Nations has issued stark warnings about a “dangerous spillover” effect, underscoring the precariousness of peace in the region.
