British Airways Flights to Dubai and Doha Cancelled Amid Escalating Middle East Tensions

Default Heading H1

British Airways has cancelled multiple flights between London Heathrow and key Middle Eastern destinations including Dubai and Doha, following overnight geopolitical developments that have disrupted international air traffic.

BA109 Diverted Mid-Air

The disruption began on Saturday night (June 21) when flight BA109, a Boeing 787 Dreamliner en route from Heathrow to Dubai, was forced to divert mid-flight. After crossing into Saudi Arabian airspace, the aircraft changed course and landed unexpectedly in Zurich, Switzerland, according to flight-tracking service Flightradar24.

Cancellations and Passenger Impact

British Airways confirmed that all flights scheduled between London Heathrow and Dubai or Doha on Sunday have been cancelled, including return legs. This has left more than 1,000 passengers stranded in the UAE, awaiting rescheduled travel.

Meanwhile, other airlines such as Emirates are reportedly operating normally.

Escalation in the Region

The incident coincides with heightened tensions in the region after US airstrikes targeted three nuclear-related facilities in Iran overnight, triggering retaliatory ballistic missile strikes by Tehran against Israel. As a result, Israel has closed its airspace to all inbound and outbound flights.

British Airways Statement

In response, a British Airways spokesperson issued a statement:

“As a result of recent events, we have adjusted our flight schedule to ensure the safety of our customers and crew, which is always our top priority.
We are contacting our customers to advise them of their options while we work through this developing situation.”

The airline has introduced a flexible booking policy for passengers scheduled to fly to Dubai or Doha between Sunday and Tuesday, allowing them to amend travel dates without penalty.

Travelers are urged to check the status of their flights on the BA website or via customer support channels.
