Man Arrested After Teen Raped in Train Toilet on Thameslink Service
Shocking Assault on Woolwich Arsenal Platform
A 17-year-old girl was brutally attacked in broad daylight. Around 6:05am on Saturday, July 19, she was sexually assaulted on the platform at Woolwich Arsenal railway station. Police say a man approached her before they both boarded a Thameslink train to Abbey Wood.
Horrifying Attack in Train Toilet
Just minutes after the train left Woolwich Arsenal, the suspect raped the teenager in a carriage toilet. The attacker then fled the train at Abbey Wood station, leaving the girl to continue alone to Slade Green, where she reported the horrific crime.
Arrest Made – Police Hunt Witnesses
British Transport Police arrested a 30-year-old man on suspicion of rape on July 24. He has been released on bail as the investigation continues. Police are urgently appealing to anyone who saw the pair together on the platform or the train to come forward.
“We want to speak to anyone who may have seen the man and teenage girl at Woolwich Arsenal station or later on the train,” said a BTP spokesperson.
