Two elderly women are fighting for their lives after being hit by a reversing van outside Savers in Melksham. The horrific crash happened around 1.30pm on Saturday, 27 September, on Lowbourne.

Emergency Crews Rush Victims to Hospital

Great Western Air Ambulance rushed to the scene alongside paramedics and police. Both women, in their 70s, were taken to a Major Trauma Centre by land ambulance. They remain in critical condition this morning.

A family member revealed the shocking extent of their injuries: bleeds on the brain, a punctured lung, a lacerated liver, and multiple broken bones.

Driver Arrested on Suspicion of Dangerous and Drug Driving

Police arrested the 25-year-old Melksham man driving the van. He has been bailed pending drug test results as officers continue their investigation.

Sergeant James from the Roads Policing Unit said: “This was a serious incident which has left two elderly women with potentially life-threatening injuries. We thank witnesses for their support and urge anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage to get in touch.”
