Huge Heath Fire Hits Canford Heath, Dorset
Dorset Police sprang into action on Saturday 23 April 2022 after a massive heath fire erupted on Canford Heath at 6.19pm. The fire brigade battled the blaze while officers ensured public safety.
Roads Shut and Homes Evacuated
Road closures were swiftly enforced. Around 20 homes on Marshwood Avenue, Culliford Crescent, and Pilsdon Drive were evacuated as a precaution. Ashdown Leisure Centre opened its doors as an evacuation centre for displaced residents.
Residents Return As Fire Brought Under Control
After working closely with the fire service, residents were allowed back to their homes by 10pm. Thankfully, no injuries were reported.
Police Appeal for Witnesses
Sergeant Fern Graham of the Poole Neighbourhood Policing Team said: “This fire has damaged a significant area of heathland. We’re still investigating the cause, which remains unknown.”
“If anyone was in Canford Heath on the afternoon of April 23 and has information, or dashcam or phone footage, please get in touch. Your help could be vital for our investigation.”
