Firefighters rushed to Wandsworth Prison in Heathfield Road on Wednesday evening after a cell inside the prison hospital caught fire just before 6pm.
Quick Action Quells Flames in 20 Minutes
The fire took hold swiftly but was doused within 20 minutes thanks to prompt action by prison staff. The prisoner inside suffered smoke inhalation but did not require hospital treatment.
No Other Prisoners Affected
Thanks to the prison’s ventilation system, smoke stayed contained, so no other inmates had to be evacuated from the area.
